New Public Artwork Installation at Crescent Beach

A newly completed mural at Black Spit Park, designed by Semiahmoo artist, Roxanne Charles.

Entitled “Tlálh Schache” ‘Saltwater Relatives’, the artwork honours the deep relationship and connection that the Se’mya’me people have with the beautiful coast at Crescent Beach. This work celebrates the strength of the wild birds that carry with them numerous teachings and life lessons, emphasizing their interconnectivity with the surrounding tidal rhythm.

Roxanne Charles is an Indigenous artist from the Semiahmoo First Nation. Charles is a mixed media artist, curator, storyteller, and cultural historian of Strait Salish and European descent. Her work is held in private collections and the collection of Surrey Art Gallery. Charles has numerous public artworks throughout the Lower Mainland, including an artwork for École Salish Secondary in Surrey.
