Unrestricted, our annual conference presented in collaboration with the Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance, takes place June 13-14 in Vancouver. In addition to feature panels on collaboration, the future of arts funding, sexual harassment, and diversity, delegates can choose between a variety of breakout sessions over the two-day conference, allowing you to customize your Unrestricted experience.
On June 13, Colin Thomas and Alice Ko are among the panelists in the breakout session “Intersecting Marketing, Criticism and Journalism.” As major media outlets reduce arts coverage, this session will unpack the changing landscape of how we communicate the value of our artistic work.
Also on day one, Andrea Loewen (Pacific Theatre), Navida Nuraney (ArtStarts in Schools) and Nina Jane Patel (Dancing on the Edge) tackle “Building Transformational Networks” in a workshop that will examine how to forge real partnerships and form networks capable of changing the cultural landscape.
The next day, facilitator Lois Dawson and local designers Carmen Altorre, Shizuka Kai, and Jeff Harrison share their design inspirations and ways costumes, lighting, and set help tell the stories we see on stage in their breakout session, “Storytelling Through Design.”
Also among the June 14 breakouts is “Building a Culture of Mentorship,” with Susan Miyagishima, Taran Kootenhayoo and Stephen Drover (recently announced as The Arts Club’s new associate artistic director). You’ll walk away with best practices and deeper understanding to make mentorship opportunities successful for yourself and/or your organization.
These are just a few of the breakout sessions on offer at this year’s conference. Check out the schedule-at-a-glance here for more info on what you can expect at Unrestricted.
